Make your own snow crystals!

Snowflakes may not be a functional thing, but they are definitely beautiful. But instead of trying to catch them out in the wild, why not grow them yourself? In this video from SciFri, Ken Libbrecht, Caltech physicist and author of “The Secret Life of a Snowflake” tells us exactly how you can do this for only a couple of bucks! Now that’s some cool science! (Pun intended)

Dust pan = makeshift water-spout?

This is a super quick video from Build.com with a very handy trick. Have you ever wanted to fill a bucket with water, but not be able to fit it underneath the tap? Would you believe you can fix it with an ordinary dust pan? Just watch this and be amazed how simple some solutions can be!

Casting metal objects…on the beach?

Casting metal parts is difficult, needs special sand, crucible, furnace and tools right? Wrong! Unless you absolutely positively need your object to be of professional quality, you may be able to go to your nearest sand beach and make it there! With the simplest tools and resources, Chaîne de coursdedesign made this amazing clip of how to make a simple metal stool. But this solution doesn’t end with stools, most object that doesn’t need a two part mould can be done in this way. The metal in this video is pewter, but we see no reason why metals with higher melting points, like aluminium, couldn’t be used. And best of all, if you use old worn out tools and pots, the only cost is fuel and metal! So gather your friends and have yourself a beach/casting party!

The super crappy way of peeling potatoes

Do you consider yourself to be an open-minded person? Open-minded enough to entertain the idea of peeling potatoes with a toilet brush? It might sound like toilet humor, but the fact is that the stiff bristles of a toilet-brush is perfect for peeling potatoes in a jiffy! Whats that, you don’t believe us? Then just watch this video from CrazyRussianHacker and be amazed! One warning though: please use an unused toilet brush, or the result will taste like shit. (Pun intended)

P.S. You’re never to old for toilet humor!
